Lestina, Koeper re-elected
to SSD Board of Education

Two candidates who were elected to seats on SSD's Board of Education were sworn in and seated at the Board’s March 8, 2016 meeting.

Those elected to the Board are:
  • Incumbent Peg Lestina, who joined the SSD Board of Education in 2013 and serves as the representative of Subdistrict 3, which covers the Parkway School District. She previously served for six years on the SSD Board of Education and co-founded the Parkway Parent Advisory Council for Children with Disabilities. She served as president of the SSD Parent Advisory Council, was a member of the Citizens Advisory Council to the Parkway Board of Education and served on the advisory council for Caring Solutions. Lestina, who has spent many years working in the arts field, currently works as a publishing specialist for Graphic Connections Group.

  • Incumbent John Koeper has served on the SSD Board of Education since 2007. An electrical engineer by trade, Koeper worked for the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District for 29 years, including four as executive director. He represents Subdistrict 4, which includes the Ferguson-Florissant, Pattonville and Riverview Gardens school districts.

After the Board members were sworn in, election of officers was held. Dr. Dan Cuneo (Subdistrict 2 – Affton, Bayless, Hancock Place and Mehlville school districts) was elected Board president; Ms. Jan Goodman (Subdistrict 6 – Clayton, Normandy, Ritenour and University City school districts) was elected Board vice president; and Mr. John Koeper (Subdistrict 4 – Ferguson-Florissant, Pattonville and Riverview Gardens school districts) was elected Board secretary.

With the passage of Proposition S in 1998, SSD Board of Education members are interviewed and elected by the District's Governing Council. The Governing Council is comprised of one Board of Education representative from each of the 22 school districts in St. Louis County.

The SSD Governing Council elected the Board of Education members at its meeting on March 7, 2016.

Both candidates were unopposed and will serve three-year terms.
