Don BohannonDon Bohannon, Superintendent of Schools

Mr. Don Bohannon was named SSD superintendent in October 2014.

Mr. Bohannon began his career in education in 1986 as an itinerant speech-language pathologist at SSD. In 1995, he became a member of the District’s administration and was appointed area coordinator. In 2000 he was promoted to region director for the District. Two years later he was again promoted to executive director of the District’s North region.

Mr. Bohannon was appointed associate superintendent in July 2014, after having served as assistant superintendent for human resources since 2004.

Mr. Bohannon received a bachelor’s degree in 1985 and a master’s degree in 1986, both in speech-language pathology from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. He earned a specialist degree in educational administration from Missouri Baptist University in 2009.

[+] Carla Addoh, Assistant Superintendent for Partner Districts
Carla Addoh was appointed assistant superintendent for partner districts in July 2015. She began her career at SSD in 1995 as a speech-language pathologist and has served in a variety of roles with the District, most recently as director for the Clayton, Jennings, Normandy and University City school districts.

Addoh holds a master’s degree in communication sciences and disorders from St. Louis University, an educational specialist degree from Webster University, a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and an associate’s degree from St. Louis Community College-Florissant Valley.

Carla Addoh
[+] Kelly Alexander, Chief Financial Officer
Kelly Alexander was appointed chief financial officer in July 2015. Over the last 25 years, she has worked in a variety of roles in SSD’s business and finance department, most recently as director of finance.

Alexander is a member of the Missouri Association of School Business Officials. She received her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Eastern Illinois University and an associate’s degree in accounting from Lake Land College.

[+] Doug Austin, Chief Technology Officer
Doug Austin was appointed chief technology officer in June 2013. He began his career at SSD in 2004 as systems administrator and was promoted to the director of information systems in 2011, and to interim chief technology officer in 2012. Prior to working at SSD, Austin served as the director of technology services for New Horizons Computer Learning Center.

Austin holds a wide range of certifications in security technologies, networking, enterprise systems administration and enterprise resource planning software technologies.

[+] Dave Baker, Assistant Superintendent of College and Career Readiness
Dave Baker was appointed assistant superintendent of college and career readiness in July 2016. He served as principal of SSD’s South Technical High School from 2002 to 2014 before becoming interim director of college and career readiness in 2014.

Baker earned his doctorate in education from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and holds a director of career education certificate from the University of Central Missouri. He received master’s degrees in education administration from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and in business administration from Fontbonne University, and has a bachelor’s degree from Missouri State University.

[+] Paul Bauer, Associate Superintendent
Paul Bauer was appointed associate superintendent in July 2016. He began his career with SSD in 1996 as an area coordinator serving the Hazelwood School District and served as director of the special education schools before becoming assistant superintendent of learning and assessment in 2012. Bauer also has worked for St. Louis Public Schools, St. Mary's Special School and Northwest R-I School District.

Bauer holds a doctorate in education from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. He earned a master’s degree in education and a bachelor's degree in psychology from Saint Louis University.

[+] Hera Didway, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources
Hera Didway was appointed assistant superintendent for human resources in July 2014. Prior to joining SSD, she spent more than two years as human resources manager at Oakwood Systems Group. From 2010 to 2012, she worked as manager of human resources at Graybar, and she served as workforce planning and recruitment specialist at Anheuser-Busch InBev from 2006 to 2010.

Didway received her master’s degree in human resources and industrial relations from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She received her bachelor’s degree from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, as well as a master’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin.

[+] Michael Hodge, J.D., General Counsel
Michael D. Hodge was appointed general counsel in April 2011. He began his career as a special educator in the Fort Zumwalt School District before becoming an attorney. After graduating from the Saint Louis University School of Law, Hodge represented public school districts throughout Missouri focusing his practice primarily in employment, general education and special education law. Prior to joining SSD, he also worked for Vatterott College as senior associate counsel/ administrator of student affairs before being promoted to vice president of operations.

Hodge earned a bachelor’s degree in special education from the University of Missouri – Columbia and a juris doctor from SLU Law School.

[+] Nancy Ide, APR, Chief Communications Officer
In September 2002, Nancy Ide was appointed as the chief communications officer for SSD after having first served as director of communications and communications manager for the District.

Prior to joining the staff of Special School District in 1999, Ide spent more than eight years as a copy editor and staff writer at Suburban Journals newspapers.

Ide has a bachelor’s degree in communications from Maryville University and an associate’s degree in journalism from St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley. She earned the designation of Accredited in Public Relations (APR) in 2009.

[+] Donald McCary, Executive Director of Planning and Development
Donald McCary was appointed executive director of planning and development in July 2016 after serving as director of SSD’s applied behavior analysis (ABA) department since 2004 and as an ABA coordinator from 2001 to 2004. Prior to joining SSD, he worked in a variety of roles in New Jersey and Texas supporting behavioral programs for students. He has been a member of the Missouri Quality Award Board of Examiners since 2011.

McCary received his master’s degree in behavior analysis from the University of North Texas and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Auburn University.

[+] Wendi Pendergrass, Executive Director
of Special Education Schools and Programs
Wendi Pendergrass was appointed SSD’s executive director of schools in 2014, and currently serves as executive director of special education schools and programs. She previously worked as SSD’s director of schools, as a teacher and principal at SSD’s Bridges program and as an area coordinator for the Ritenour School District, supporting the high school and Ritenour Middle School.

Pendergrass received her bachelor’s degree in education and master’s degree in administration in general and special education from Lindenwood University. She is currently an adjunct professor at Lindenwood University and is writing her dissertation for her doctorate degree.
