    Angela Edwards Selected as the Hazelwood Partner District Director

    April 11, 20204 - The SSD Board of Education has approved Angela Edwards as the new Hazelwood Partner District Director, effective July 1. Edwards began working at Special School District in 2007 as an elementary special education teacher. She then served as an administrative intern during the 2014-15 school year before being promoted to special education coordinator in 2015. She has been serving as Hazelwood’s interim director since October 2023.

    Diggs Approved as Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility

    April 11, 2024 - During the April 9, 2024, Board of Education meeting, Dr. Darryl Diggs was approved as the Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA). Diggs will move into the position at the beginning of the 2024-25 school year.

    February 28, 2024 - From historically Black colleges, to gospel music, to entrepreneurs like Madam C.J. Walker, Northview High School celebrated all aspects of Black history at their annual Black History Celebration.

    February 14, 2024 - Northview School physical education coaches Anthony Forneris and Michael Laspe hosted an all-school UNO Super Bowl Championship for students. It’s a tradition that takes place every year and coincides with the National Football League’s (NFL) championship game.

    Jan. 9, 2024 - The strength of any school district lies in its relationships with families. The SSD Family-School Relationship Survey will be administered Jan. 8-26, 2024. The survey asks families how well the District shares information and involves them in their students' learning.

    Special School District Announces New Superintendent

    Dec. 18, 2023 - The Special School District of St. Louis County Board of Education is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Michael Maclin as the District’s next superintendent of schools, effective Jan. 1, 2024. Maclin was approved by a unanimous vote to be SSD’s 20th superintendent and the first person of color to serve as superintendent in the District’s 66-year history. He has been serving as acting superintendent since October.

    Nov. 20, 2023 - As we say goodbye to the summer heat, families are preparing for cooler weather, holiday celebrations, and the need to take preventative measures against illness. Sickness is on the rise throughout St. Louis County and contagious respiratory viruses (like flu, COVID-19, and RSV) can spread easily. SSD schools are experiencing an increasingly high rate of illness in our student and staff population. All three of these illnesses are expected to surge during the fall and winter seasons.

    Nov. 17, 2023 - Candidate filing for two open seats on the Special School District Board of Education opens at 8 AM on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2023, and continues until 5 PM on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2023. The terms of current Vice President Dr. Meredith Byers, Subdistrict 5 and Director Ms. Tiffany Hudson, Subdistrict 6, expire in March 2024.

    Northview Barbecue Creates Community Engagement

    October 20, 2023 - Students and their families experienced an evening of fun and community engagement at Northview’s sixth annual barbecue and transition fair. The event is held every year to allow families to network and give them the opportunity to meet the staff who work with their children every day.

    SSD Student Surveys Administered Sept. 8 - Oct. 9, 2023

    Aug. 31, 2023 - SSD values the academic and personal well-being of our students and prioritizes making data-informed decisions to support their success. In collaboration with Panorama Education, SSD students in grades 3-12 are invited to share their voices through two surveys, a climate survey and a social-emotional learning (SEL) survey.
