PALS Students Are Chefs in the Making
Feb. 3, 2023- Grilled cheese, muffins, spaghetti and meatballs, cupcakes, and pancakes are only a few of the dishes that students have made in the Lindbergh Personalized Academics and Life Skills (PALS) class at Sperreng Middle School.

Neuwoehner Remembers March on Washington
Feb. 2, 2023 - Students and staff at Neuwohener High School marched through the hallways of the building for the 15th consecutive year, emulating the 1963 March on Washington. The school march is one of the ways students and staff celebrate Black History Month and learn about a pivotal point in United States history.

Northview Students Honored at Character Award Assembly
February 1, 2023 - During a school wide assembly held at Northview High School, 12 students were presented with Student of Character certificates by Mark Sharp, assistant principal. Students are selected and recognized each quarter for a character award by demonstrating the school's expectations of best effort, responsibility, and respect.

Feb. 1, 2023 - In the latest installment of the Superintendent Insider, Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Keenan asks you to join her in celebrating North and South Tech as we recognize CTE Month®. SSD has been providing career and technical education to students in St. Louis County for over 50 years, offering new programs, outstanding partnerships, and relevant experiences to our region's high school students. That's the value of CTE.

Summer Programming
Feb. 1, 2023 - Registration for 2023 summer programming is now open! All students who attend Ackerman, Litzsinger, Neuwoehner, Northview, and Southview schools are eligible to participate in summer programming, which will operate from June 5-29, 2023. The deadline for registration is March 31, 2023.

Mindfulness Room Creates Safe Space for Students at Hoech Middle
Jan. 31, 2022 - Comfort, safety, and resolution. These are the three areas of focus for students who utilize the Mindfulness Room at Hoech Middle School. Located in the Ritenour School District, the room was created during the 2022-23 school year to expand support for social-emotional learning (SEL). It’s a space for students to address and overcome any challenges they may be experiencing.

SSD Announces St. Louis County Apprenticeship and Career Pathways Showcase Dates
Jan. 17, 2023 - Special School District is proud to co-host the St. Louis County Apprenticeship and Career Pathways Showcase for the second year. Families and students in grades 6 through 12, as well as recent graduates, are invited to these FREE events to experience a variety of careers through interactive exhibits and discussions with industry professionals.

Bridget Duke Announced as Neuwoehner Assistant Principal
Jan. 17, 2023 - During Jan. 10, 2023 Board of Education meeting, Bridget Duke was approved as the Assistant Principal at Neuwoehner High School. Duke has been with Special School District since August 2018.

Ann Hawkey Will Serve as JDC Principal
January 17, 2023 - During the January 10 Board of Education meeting, Ann Hawkey was approved for the role of principal of the St. Louis County Juvenile Detention Center. During her transition to her new role, Hawkey will work with the director of special education, SSD leadership, and partner district leadership in Hazelwood to ensure students and schools are supported until the special education coordinator position can be filled.

Winter 2023 Construction Update
Jan. 17, 2023 - Major projects have been crossed off of SSD Facilities and Operations to-do list as several building remodels have been substantially completed in recent months. Staff are gearing up for more renovations this spring.

2023 Board Election Candidates
Jan. 17, 2023 - Four candidates will be vying for three open positions on the Special School District Board of Education in the spring election. Two candidates have filed for Subdistrict 1, one candidate for Subdistrict 2 and one candidate for Subdistrict 7.

SSD Family-School Relationships Survey
Jan. 13, 2023 - The strength of any school district lies in its relationships with families. In Special School District, District and building leaders, along with school staff are committed to fostering those relationships to create a school culture where students come first. To do that successfully, family input is necessary. Families are invited to complete the SSD Family-School Relationships Survey, which will be available from Jan. 17 through Feb. 10, 2023.

It’s important to find ways to share ideas and listen to our community’s ideas, priorities, and goals for our schools. Eight Students Receive Character Capture Award at Neuwoehner
Jan. 12, 2022 - Eight students at Neuwoehner High School were selected to receive a Character Capture Award for demonstrating kindness, peace, cooperation and safety.This is the 10th year of Character Capture Awards ceremonies at Neuwoehner for the past 10 years and countless students have been recognized and celebrated.
