2023 Board Election Candidates

Four candidates will be vying for three open positions on the Special School District Board of Education in the spring election. Two candidates have filed for Subdistrict 1, one candidate for Subdistrict 2 and one candidate for Subdistrict 7.
The open positions are for three-year terms and represent the following subdistricts:
- Subdistrict 1 - Hazelwood, Maplewood-Richmond Heights, and Jennings school districts
- Stephanie Boykin
- Curtis Faulkner, incumbent
- Subdistrict 2 – Affton, Bayless, Hancock Place, and Mehlville school districts
- Dr. Daniel Cuneo, incumbent
- Subdistrict 7 – Clayton, and Rockwood school districts
- Dr. Yuval Asner, incumbent
The terms of current Board members Curtis Faulkner - Subdistrict 1, Dr. Daniel Cuneo - Subdistrict 2, and Dr. Yuval Asner - Subdistrict 7 expire in March 2023.
In March, the Board candidates will be interviewed by the SSD Governing Council, which selects new members of the Board of Education. With the passage of Proposition S in 1998, SSD Board of Education members are elected by the District’s Governing Council. The Governing Council is comprised of one Board of Education member from each of the 22 school districts in St. Louis County.
