Preparing for the IEP Meeting

  • Taking a few steps to prepare before the IEP meeting may help you feel more confident about the process and prepared to be an advocate for your child.

  • 1. Fill out the IEP Preparation and Participation Form

  • 2. Talk to your child

  • 3. Become knowledgeable about your child’s disability

  • 4. Review your child’s file

  • 5. Review any previous IEPs for your child

  • 6. Make an outline of what you believe your child needs to learn

  • 7. Prepare a list of questions

  • 8. Talk with other parents

  • 9. Invite others to the IEP meeting

  • 10. Attend the meeting
