Investment in Employees/Benefits
-
Ask SSD employees about the benefits of working for the District, and you’re likely to hear about their incredible students or the support they receive from dedicated coworkers. And while these are, indeed, central to the District’s appeal, there remain dozens of other tangible benefits to a career with SSD. From its competitive salaries to its wide range of staff development opportunities, Special School District offers educators not just a job, but a vibrant, dynamic career.
-
Salaries and insurance
SSD offers competitive salaries and comprehensive insurance benefits to its full-time staff.
The District offers an open access medical plan for staff. This health insurance coverage is paid for by the District and provides employees with a wide range of choices in physicians, hospitals and pharmacies. SSD also provides dental, vision and life insurance for staff at no cost to the employee.
-
Holidays and leave
SSD is also competitive in the areas of holidays, sick and bereavement leave and sabbatical leave. In the latter category, SSD offers up to a year of sabbatical leave at 50 percent of an employee’s salary after seven years of continuous service, based on supervisor approval. In addition, SSDâoffers up to one year unpaid leave for education and childrearing purposes after one year of employment.
-
Retirement plan
All full-time employees of the District are enrolled in a state public school retirement plan through which the employee and the District contribute matching amounts. Employees are fully vested in the plan after five years of continuous service. Additionally, staff can make contributions to several tax-deferred savings plans.
-
Staff development opportunities
The District has worked hard to establish lasting partnerships with area colleges and universities. These partnerships bear fruit through program offerings and workshops tailored to meet the needs of SSD staff.
Additionally, SSD offers hundreds of opportunities annually for training and learning through in-house workshops, lectures and staff development activities.
