About the Instructional Resource Center

  • library shelves Imagine a place where special education teachers can comb through aisles of cutting-edge instructional tools and resources for use in their classrooms, choosing from thousands of professional books, journals, flashcards, educational games, software and adaptive and assistive devices. Now imagine that parents and students can come to the same place and access the very same materials for use in their homes.

Just such a place exists at the Central Administrative Offices of SSD. It’s called the Instructional Resource Center (IRC). Families of students served by SSD can visit the center Monday to Friday each week or can browse through the IRC catalog online.

To check on the availability of and to reserve materials, call the IRC at 314.989.8308 or 314.989.8334 or e-mail us.

Students and staff can also access MoreNet's selection of online databases for research through the IRC. From schools, login should be automatic. Please email the IRC for the username and password to gain access from home. Staff can learn more information about the IRC on SSD Life.

Item of the Month

  • Novel Engineering Kits in the IRC

    Novel Engineering Kits

Novel Engineering encourages students to interact with literature in a proactive, hands-on manner. Students read a story appropriate to their grade-level, then determine a program that a character faces. Students then user engineering skills to design and build a toold that would, hypothetically, solve the character's problem.

Novel Engineering Kits include a book, book overview with suggested problem and solution ideas, a novel engineering guide with reproducibles and teacher planning worksheets. Additional Novel Engineering supplies are available in the IRC.
