How Can I Make an Appointment?
Students may make an appointment with their guidance counselor through the secretary in the guidance office before or after school or during lunch. Your teacher’s approval must be obtained when scheduling an appointment during his/her class period. The guidance secretary will give you a pass which your teacher must sign before you come to your appointment. Please remember to sign in and out so you will not be marked absent. Parents may call the guidance department at any time to schedule a meeting.

Can I Change my Technical Program?
All technical program changes must take place the first week of the semester. After this timeframe, changes are pending administrative review. Students will only be granted one technical program change.

Can I take Correspondence Courses or Night School?
When students need extra courses to meet graduation requirements, they may complete coursework outside the technical school setting.
Correspondence courses are available from other institutions. The student must pay for all correspondence courses.
Night and summer school courses are offered at various locations and districts throughout St. Louis County and City. Student’s residency may determine where students may access these opportunities. Students should also contact their guidance counselor to discuss other credit recovery options. -
What is an Elective?
An elective course refers to a course taken that may or may not be specifically required for graduation.

How Can I Explore Post-Secondary Options?
The guidance department can assist students in career exploration and assessment through individual counseling and the use of tools such as the Kuder Career Planning System. The information can help students select post-secondary careers, technical schools, and colleges.

Can I Graduate Early?
Early Graduation is an option only at the beginning of the eighth semester of high school attendance. An application must be completed and approved prior to the start of the eighth semester. Half-day juniors who enroll as full-day seniors will not be eligible for Early Graduation.

How are Units of Credit Measured?
Courses meeting one period daily for one semester earn one-half (.5) credit. Technical programs meeting three periods daily for one semester earn one and one-half (1.5) credits per semester.

What is a Required Course?
This means that a course is required by either the State Department of Education or SSD-Technical Education Division for graduation.

What is a Prerequisite?
A prerequisite means that a required must be successfully completed before another course may be taken.
