• Course Description

    This is an exclusive high school program offering the same curriculum as a beauty college without tuition costs. All aspects of cosmetology including all hair, nail, and skincare services are included. Students learn in a full-service salon along with classroom instruction from licensed Cosmetologists. By graduation, students will have had the opportunity to earn all of the hours required to take their Missouri State Board certification exam to become a licensed cosmetologist.

    **Students MUST begin this program at the start of their junior year - no mid-year or senior enrollment is available.

    *** Attendance requirements must be maintained to ensure eligibility for the Missouri State Board of Certification exam.

  • Prerequisites at the Time of Junior Year Enrollment

    Minimum of 7 core credits and 12 total credits (1.5 must be English); on track to graduate

    *College credit and certification are not guaranteed. Their attainment is dependent on student performance in both the course and on external 
    industry assessments. All certifications are through external agencies and the accommodations permitted will vary from assessment to assessment. Additionally, students must participate in the full two years of the program to be potentially eligible for all certifications listed.

  • Tech is Real World Learning

    Students in this program learn through the use of a variety of industry grade tools and equipment and texts. Their real world labs also require uniforms and personal protective equipment.

  • Essential Skills Needed for Success

    Students learn the entry level skills necessary to prepare for post-secondary education and the highly competitive world of work. Traditionally, successful students have mastered the processing and/or physical skills listed below prior to enrollment.

    Core Essential Skills

    • Basic knowledge of chemistry/chemical composition; including uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods

    • Complete tasks in high stress situations and under pressure

    • Understand and use basic math computations; including percentages, fractions and standard units of measurement

    • Understand written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents (Technical reading)

    • Understand the severity of following safety and infection control procedures

    • Display professional behavior at ALL times (verbal & nonverbal cues)

    • Grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects and quickly move hands together with arm, or move two hands together

    • Stand and move for extended periods of time

    • Tolerate odors and fumes associated with a salon

    Mrs. Lograsso began her career in the beauty industry in 2005 and still works as a self-employed hairstylist and makeup artist in the St. Louis area. In 2011, Mrs. Lograsso felt a passion to contribute to the growth of today's young hairstylists and decided to join the education branch of the industry. Mrs. Lograsso taught for six years at Paul Mitchell the School St. Louis before joining the South Tech team in 2017.
