This is Precision Machining

  • Course Description

    Students invent, design, and manufacture tools and components for a wide range of production while learning how to use advanced computer controlled technology, 3D printing, and traditional machining skills. Project based learning includes training in MasterCAM and Computer Aided Design (CAD) software.

  • Prerequisites at the Time of Junior Year Enrollment

    Minimum of 7 core credits (1.5 must be English); on track to graduate.

  • Essential Skills Needed for Success

    Students learn the entry level skills necessary to prepare for post-secondary education and the highly competitive world of work. Traditionally, successful students have mastered the processing and/or physical skills listed below prior to enrollment.

    Core Essential Skills

    • Have knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, and geometry as well as their application; understand and use basic math computations; including percentages, fractions, decimals, rulers and standard units of measurement
    • Arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules
    • Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong
    • Keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position
    • Quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects
    • Quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine to exact positions
    • The strength to tighten and loosen machine accessories to the appropriate torque specification
    • Ability to watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly
