Lestina, Koeper elected to
SSD Board of Education

The SSD Governing Council elected two candidates to seats on the SSD Board of Education on March 12.

  • Peg Lestina represents Subdistrict 3, the Parkway School District. She previously served for six years on the SSD Board of Education and co-founded the Parkway Parent Advisory Council for Children with Disabilities. She served as president of the SSD Parent Advisory Council, was a member of the Citizens Advisory Council to the Parkway Board of Education and currently serves on the advisory council for Caring Solutions. Lestina, who has spent many years working in the arts field, currently works as a publishing specialist for Graphic Connections Group.
  • Incumbent John Koeper has served on the SSD Board of Education since 2007. An electrical engineer by trade, Koeper worked for the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District for 29 years, including four as executive director. He represents Subdistrict 4, which includes Ferguson-Florissant, Pattonville and Riverview Gardens school districts.

Both candidates were unopposed and will serve three-year terms.

With the passage of Proposition S in 1998, SSD Board of Education members are interviewed and elected by the District's Governing Council. The Council is comprised of one Board of Education representative from each of the 22 school districts in St. Louis County.

After the newly elected Board members were sworn in, election of officers was held. Dr. James Westbury was re-elected Board president; Dr. Daniel Cuneo was re-elected vice president; and Dr. Zella Williams was re-elected secretary. SSD Chief Financial Officer Rich Carver will continue as treasurer of the Board of Education.
