Northview High School Earns National School of Character Honor

NSOC badgeNonprofit organization has named Northview High School as a 2017 National School of Character.
Northview, one of five special education schools operated by Special School District of St. Louis County, is one of 83 schools and four school districts being recognized nationwide in 2017. It is the only one of 17 schools honored in Missouri that serves an entirely special education population.

Each year, selects schools and districts that demonstrate through a rigorous evaluation process that their focus on character development has had a positive impact on academic achievement, student behavior, school climate and their communities.

“The students and staff really put forth their best effort when it comes to character education, from activities in the classroom to reaching out to the community, mentoring at elementary schools and providing character education lessons at the local elementary schools,” said Northview Principal Brian O’Connor. “They’ve really gone above and beyond to make this happen. So congratulations to the staff and students.”

Selected schools will serve as models for other schools, helping them to achieve the same results.

Northview is one of 17 schools being honored in 2017 that are former National Schools of Character reapplying for the national designation. will honor the 2017 National Schools of Character at the National Forum on Character Education, to be held Oct. 20-21 in Arlington, Virginia.

Located in Florissant, Missouri, Northview educates students 14 to 21 years with a range of disabilities. Students attending Northview live in several nearby school districts: Ferguson-Florissant, Hazelwood, Riverview Gardens and Jennings.
