Stewart Honored as 2014
Pioneer in Education

Marilyn StewartSSD Board of Education member Marilyn Stewart was one of four educators honored July 28 by the Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education as Pioneers in Education for their commitment and contributions to public education in Missouri.

Stewart began her career as a teacher at Henry Hough Elementary School in Kirkwood before teaching at Washington Elementary School in Normandy. She has spent the last 31 years volunteering in education, including a 17-year stint on the Kirkwood School Board and serving as president of the Missouri School Boards’ Association.

Stewart joined the SSD Board of Education in 2000. She serves as the Subdistrict 5 representative, which covers Brentwood, Kirkwood, Lindbergh, Maplewood-Richmond Heights, Valley Park and Webster Groves school districts. Prior to her service on the SSD Board, Stewart served SSD as a member of the Governing Council, Public Review Committee and Special Education Partnership Task Force.

DESE recognized the 2014 Pioneers during a luncheon ceremony at the 53rd Annual Cooperative Conference for School Administrators in Columbia, Missouri.
