SSD Names Teacher of the Year
SSD is proud to announce it has selected Erin Hemme as its 2021 Teacher of the Year. Hemme is a teacher of the deaf for SSD and teaches at the Ladue Early Childhood Center. She earned the honor for her dedication to student learning, collaboration with families and coworkers, and her ability to help students make great strides in their education.

SSD Welcomes New Board Directors & Honors Outgoing Board Members
At the March 1 Governing Council meeting, three new Board Directors were elected to the SSD Board of Education. The three new Board Directors, welcomed and sworn in at the March 9 Board meeting, are Scott Moeller – Subdistrict 4, Dr. Meredith Byers – Subdistrict 5, and Tiffany Hudson – Subdistrict 6. The new Board Directors replace outgoing Vice President Juli Brown and Board Directors Jan Goodman and Nancy Ide/LaTrisa Morgan.

National School Social Worker Week
SSD joins schools across the country to celebrate school social workers during National School Social Worker Week, March 8-12, 2021. This special week is dedicated to highlighting the contributions school social workers make to the educational process assisting students as they meet the challenges of the 21st century.

Black History on Display in SSD Schools and Partner Districts

Read Across America
SSD Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Keenan read to students at SSD's Ackerman School on March 2 for Read Across America, celebrated on Dr. Seuss’ birthday.

Song Inspires Smiles at Northview
In an effort to boost student and staff morale during the on-going safety precautions due to COVID-19, Whitney Ostercamp, music therapist at Northview, composed the song “Smile.” It was written to create a sense of community, even though some students are in-person and some are virtual, and to boost morale in these unprecedented times.

Partnership Powers Student Success
Each fall, students at North Tech and South Tech are asked to sign a contract. Students commit to keep up their attendance, maintain good grades and to stay out of trouble. In exchange the students get unique access to guest speakers, mock job interview training and special job placement test prep. It’s all part of the Ameren Skilled Craft Education Program.

Former Student Featured
Former SSD student Derek Baker was featured on the Today Show as he shared his experience participating in Lafayette Industries' STEPUP competitive employment training program at The Pioneer Bakery Cafe in Kirkwood.

South Tech Alum Earns Recognition
Juwan Rice, a 2019 graduate of Parkway North High School and the culinary arts program at South Technical High School, recently received accolades as one of Sauce magazine's "Ones to Watch" and is among Feast magazine's Rising Stars for 2021.

Family Workshops & Resources
