About the Vision Impairment/Blind Department

  • Student reading braille The Vision Program serves students ages 3 to 21 that have an educational disability of blind or visually impaired. Vision Itinerant Teachers (Teachers of the Visually Impaired), support students with direct and consultative services across general education and special education settings and adapt and modify curriculum for student access. Student’s access may include Braille, large print, audio or digital text. Appropriate technological support tools will be determined with a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) and the IEP team. Students with multiple disabilities, which include an educational diagnosis of blind or vision or visually impaired, receive support from the Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) in consultations with classroom staff for programming needs or through direct instruction.

Orientation and Mobility is a related service provided for students served through the vision department who require specialized instruction in travel skills.
