    SSD Celebrates Juneteenth

    June 19, 2022 - Today, June 19, SSD celebrates Juneteenth as a day of recognition, restoration, and celebration of African American freedom and achievement. SSD stands in solidarity with all students, staff, and community members who have experienced hardships, mistreatment, or harassment due to the color of their skin. The District honors and recognizes the contributions that people of color have made and continue to make, toward the betterment of our nation.

    Law Enforcement Class Visit Municipal Police Academy and Communications Center

    May 25, 2022 - Career opportunities in the field of Law Enforcement are endless. They range from commissioned officer to dispatcher, first responder, and of course, police officer. Senior South Tech students took a field trip to the St. Louis County and Municipal Police and Fire Academy and to the St. Louis County Police Communications Center to get a glimpse of what it’s like to work in these positions.

    Lou Fusz Donates Van to South Tech Automotive Technology Program

    May 17, 2022 - Lou Fusz Automotive Network made a stop at South Tech High School to discuss open positions and donate a van to the Automotive Technology Program. The company is currently looking to hire full-time detailers. In this position, workers are paid $15 per hour and are responsible for making cars frontline ready for the dealership.

    Tech Schools Celebrate Students Entering the Workforce

    May 12, 2022 - During the month of May, North and South Tech High Schools celebrated seniors who are embarking on a new chapter in their lives. Both schools hosted Singing Day, a ceremony that recognizes students who have made commitments to regional companies.

    Missy Leibbrandt Named SSD's 2022 Teacher of the Year

    May 2, 2022 - Missy Leibbrandt was selected as SSD's 2022 Teacher of the Year! Leibbrandt is a special education teacher at Claymont Elementary in Parkway School District. She is known for her whole child approach to her students and consistently going above and beyond in her support of them. A dedicated team player and communicator, she commits time to collaborate with her students' general education teachers and ensures her families are updated frequently, comprehensively, and in a caring and personal style.

    SSD Named 10th Largest Employer in the Region

    April 11, 2022 - In St. Louis Business Journal’s July 2022 Employers and Who’s Who lists, Special School District once again ranked 10th among the region’s largest employers. The Journal defined the region as the counties of St. Louis, St. Charles, Lincoln, Warren, Franklin, Washington, and Jefferson, along with the City of St. Louis.

    SSD’s Personal Care Items Drive

    March 30, 2022 - Special School District will be collecting personal care items during the month of April. Donated items will directly benefit students in SSD schools and programs and will be distributed by social workers. The goal is to provide students with access to personal hygiene items to help decrease their absences, promote community, and increase students’ active participation in their education.

    March 30, 2022 - Life as a high school graduate is right around the corner for many South Tech junior and senior students. To help them develop a plan and discover what options they have as young adults, Future Farmers of America (FFA) State Vice President Hannah Shanks made a stop at the high school to speak with students in the Veterinary Assistant Program.

    Information on AMI Virtual Learning Days

    February 23, 2022 - Last week, our District used all of our scheduled “traditional snow days” during the winter storm that affected our area. With the threat of additional winter weather moving in later this week, we wanted to remind families that going forward if school must be closed, the District will use Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) days to provide virtual learning for students.

    South Tech Culinary Students Make Cupcakes for Healthcare Workers

    February 17, 2022 - Culinary students at South Tech are using their talents and love for cooking to give back to the community. In January, students made nearly 200 orders of biscuits and gravy for healthcare workers at St. Luke’s Hospital, Delmar Gardens South, and The Sheridan at Laumeier Park. On Feb. 15, they delivered 350 cupcakes to St. Luke’s Hospital and St. Louis University.

    January 21, 2022 - The Auto Collision Repair programs at North and South Tech High Schools have been gifted Plastic Repair Stations worth $13,000 from St. Louis I-Car Committee. The organization works to provide supplies and information required to perform quality vehicle repairs.

    Tech Students Learn About Medical Research Positions Available After Graduation

    January 21, 2022 - There are dozens of avenues to take for those who are interested in working with animals, such as marine biologist, pet groomer, military dog trainer, animal-assisted therapist, or veterinarian. On Jan. 12, vet assistant students at North and South Tech High Schools learned about another career pathway – caring for animals involved in research studies.

    Family Resource Hub Opens to Support SSD Families

    January 20, 2022 - The Family and Community Outreach team has fulfilled a longstanding need at SSD-- opening a Family Resource Hub for students, staff, and families. The space is located at North Tech High School and provides the SSD community with computer, phone, and internet access, as well as a food pantry.
