Earning your Special Education Certification

Certified teachers interested in joining the SSD teaching team need a Special Education certification in the area(s) that fit your goals. The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) allows teachers to earn certifications through Praxis.
When visiting the site, scroll down to "Special Education" to see the offerings. To teach in our special education classrooms, our teachers earn a Special Education: Foundational Knowledge certification.
Practice tests are $24.95 and the official test costs $130. Both in-person and at-home testing options are available. Final scores are submitted directly to DESE.
