  • Filing Opens Dec. 7 for Two Seats on SSD Board of Education

    November 1, 2021 - Candidate filing for two open seats of the SSD Board of Education opens at 8 AM on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021, and continues until 5 PM on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021. The terms of current Board members Ms. Katie Pottroff, Subdistrict 3, and Scott Moeller, Subdistrict 4 expire in March 2022.

    November 30, 2021 - Accessible online health resources and adherence to CDC guidelines were instrumental in garnering SSD the 2021 Business Health Culture Award from the St. Louis Area Business Health Coalition (BHC).

  • Resource Officer and Students Form Tradition of Playing Chess at Lunch

    Most students use lunchtime as an opportunity to relax their minds and take a break from the hustle and bustle of the school day. But for some students at North Tech, it’s the time when they put their game faces on and come up with strategies to be named the winning champion in a game of chess. Since the beginning of the school year, School Resource Office Neil French has been playing chess with North Tech students during their lunch period.

  • Boeing Visits North and South Tech High Schools

    November 15, 2021 - Dozens of North and South Tech students spent an afternoon interacting with Boeing industry professionals, learning what it’s like to work as skilled assembly and sheet metal mechanics. The instructors gave an introductory demonstration on how to build and maintain the structure of an aircraft, with an emphasis on accuracy and precision.

  • SSD Staff and Students Honor Those Who Served in the Armed Forces

    November 12, 2021 - November 11 is a day dedicated to honoring those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. As a show of appreciation and gratitude, students and staff at North Tech and Neuwoehner High Schools spent the day giving back by serving veteran staff members a free lunch and displaying thank you messages throughout the building.

    November 9, 2021 - Special School District has a long history of celebrating outstanding teachers, paraprofessionals, community members, and other SSD employees who stand out for their tremendous work in helping our students succeed. Each spring, the District honors these individuals with a number of awards.

    November 4, 2021 - This year has been a milestone for Dr. Ronda Wallace, principal at Special School District’s North Technical High School! Wallace was recently selected by the St. Louis American Foundation to receive a 2021 Excellence in Education Award for leadership in her school and community.

  • It's Always Careers in Construction Month at Tech

    October 26, 2021 - Governor Parson recently signed a proclamation declaring October as Careers in Construction month to spotlight and appreciate the skilled craft professionals who make up this critical workforce. Students at North and South Tech High Schools’ construction programs are privileged to be mentored by these professionals daily.

  • North Tech Open House Oct. 28

    October 11, 2021 - North Technical High School, north St. Louis County’s career and technical education (CTE) provider, will host an in-person Open House on October 28, 2021, from 5-7 PM. In cooperation with local partner districts, North Tech offers students CTE courses that immerse them in real-world learning. CTE’s mission is college and career readiness - a commitment to preparing students for the increasing demands of the 21st-century workforce and ensuring they are fully prepared for college or careers.

  • Seven SSD Teachers Awarded Grants from Missouri Retired Teachers Foundation

    Aug. 30, 2021 - A total of eight SSD teachers and support personnel have been awarded grants from Missouri Retired Teachers Foundation (MRTF). MRTF is a not-for-profit organization devoted to raising funds to award grants to active teachers to enhance their classroom instruction, among other things. Last year, almost 100 grants were awarded to teachers across Missouri.

  • Haar Helps Paras Joining SSD

    August 26, 2021 - Kevin Haar can often be found standing in front of the brightly lit windows of the Learning Center’s third-floor conference room as he welcomes newly hired SSD paraprofessionals (or commonly known as teacher assistants) to orientation. He greets new staff with granola bars and laptops as they stream in to begin their first day as a para for SSD. “I want them to know I am their ally, they can come to me with anything,” says Haar, who joined the Planning and Development team as our Paraprofessional Professional Learning Facilitator on July 1, 2021.
