Kyronda Brown

Kyronda Brown has achieved outstanding academic and behavioral growth throughout her years at Hazelwood West High School, where she receives SSD services.

Kyronda started her sophomore year in Project Walk, a program designed to help students who may be on the path to dropping out of school.

She excelled in the program, increased her attendance and began talking about her future. She also suggested another student for the Project Walk program and mentored that student.

“She took the student under her wing and made sure she got back on track,” said SSD teacher Erin Wilson, who nominated Kyronda for the Rosemary Zander Award.

Kyronda was invited to talk with a group of teachers, administrators and other stakeholders about Project Walk.

“She talked about advocating for herself, her post-high school plans and employment, and community service,” said Wilson. “I am proud to see the woman that Kyronda has become and honored to say she was one of my students. She is truly an inspiration for all students.”
