Madeleine Gildehaus

Madeleine Gildehaus experienced a transformation when she began working in the food service program at SSD’s Vocational Skills Program (VSP) site at Monsanto.

“Maddie came to our program shy and timid and was very unsure of herself and unclear what the future might hold,” said SSD VSP teacher Lisa Sinak, who nominated Maddie for the Rosemary Zander Award.

Maddie has gone from making salads and sandwiches to working in the deli, and her worth ethic has become stellar, according to Sinak. “We evaluate our students using a rating sheet with 17 work behaviors. The total available on an evaluation is 85 points. Maddie has received 85 points on her last four evaluations,” she said.

Sinak said Maddie has a bright future. “She works hard always,” Sinak said. “She gives 110 percent five days a week, and she is a role model to her classmates.”
