Malik Warbington

Malik Warbington is a great example of a student who advocates for himself, and he inspires others to do the same.

A junior at Hazelwood West High School, Malik receives services from SSD and participates in the Essential Skills program.

He has exhibited extraordinary achievements in academics, communication skills, independent living skills and job training skills, according to SSD teacher Heather Berry, who nominated Malik for the Rosemary Zander Award along with SSD social worker Valerie Boysen.

“Malik has used his communication skills achievements to advocate for ways he could achieve academically,” said Berry.  “He has made enormous strides with his functional and daily living skills. It’s impressive to see how he has grown in confidence and self-advocacy.”
