Neuwoehner High School student Louis Basler was recognized at the Oct. 24 meeting of the SSD Board of Education.

Louis has demonstrated exemplary service to Fontbonne University, working as an SSD representative in the District’s Community-Based Vocational Instruction Program. Recently, he completed the “Tri My Best” Triathlon held at Washington University by finishing a 200-meter swim, a 2-mile bike ride and a 0.6-mile run. All proceeds from the event went to St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Louis is also a supporter of Special Olympics, participating as both an athlete and an ambassador.

Louis demonstrates both leadership and stewardship by serving as a Neuwoehner student council officer and acting as the Neuwoehner representative to the local Whole Foods Market, where a portion of the store’s profits are donated back to his school.

Additionally, Louis volunteers his time as a class representative by delivering soda tabs to the Ronald McDonald House. These tabs are converted to dollars to aid the families of ill children.

Louis models citizenship for his fellow students by volunteering regularly in the Neuwoehner cafeteria and as a Character Council member, contributing to Neuwoehner’s achievement of being named a National School of Character in 2014. He is a past recipient of the Neuwoehner Character Captured Award and maintains a near perfect attendance record for which he has been recognized by the Neuwoehner administration and faculty.
