Counselors Celebrate During National School Counseling Week, Feb. 4–8, 2013

National School Counseling Week will be celebrated from Feb. 4–8, 2013, to focus on the unique contribution of professional school counselors within U.S. school systems and how students are different as a result of what school counselors do. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.

The special week honoring school counselors provides recognition for school counselors who implement comprehensive
school counseling programs, a vital part of the educational process for all students as they meet the challenges of the 21st century.

More than 30,000 school counselors nationwide will be participating in this week of recognition.

As part of its celebration of school counselors, Northview students will be focusing on ‘Kindness’ this month. You might wonder what that means. Kindness is defined as “The quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.” And showing kindness means being aware of others and how they feel before you act. So this month we will explore ways to express kindness toward others and accept kindness ourselves. There are so many opportunities at school, at home and in our communities to show kindness to others, but sometimes these opportunities are not easy to see! My job is to help each of your students find small ways to show kindness wherever they are, no matter the situation. That’s what school counselors do: We help.
