    November 1, 2021 - Candidate filing for two open seats of the SSD Board of Education opens at 8 AM on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021, and continues until 5 PM on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021. The terms of current Board members Ms. Katie Pottroff, Subdistrict 3, and Scott Moeller, Subdistrict 4 expire in March 2022.

  • Students Learn Artful Gardening at Neuwoehner

    November 30, 2021 - Neuwoehner High School art teacher Deborah Rudolf wants all her students to become creative thinkers and makers of art. If gardening helps them get there, that’s a bonus. “Even if they don’t like art, I want them to know that art can be calming, art can be expressive,” said Rudolf.

  • Serving Coffee Provides Students With Essential Skills

    November 29, 2021 - Every morning, Monday through Friday at 8 AM, five students in Michelle Cantino’s Learning Community class prepare and serve coffee, hot chocolate, and tea for teachers and staff at Neuwoehner High School. The goal of the class is to prepare students to meet their employment, education, and independent living outcomes, and serving hot beverages helps the students do just that.

  • SSD Staff and Students Honor Those Who Served in the Armed Forces

    November 12, 2021 - November 11 is a day dedicated to honoring those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. As a show of appreciation and gratitude, students and staff at North Tech and Neuwoehner High Schools spent the day giving back by serving veteran staff members a free lunch and displaying thank you messages throughout the building.

  • South Tech Virtual Open House Nov. 4, 5 - 7 PM

    October 11, 2021 - South Technical High School, career and technical education (CTE) provider in south and west St. Louis County, will host a virtual Open House on Nov. 4, 2021, from 5-7 PM. In cooperation with local partner districts, South Tech offers students CTE courses that immerse them in real-world learning. CTE’s mission is college and career readiness - a commitment to preparing students for the increasing demands of the 21st-century workforce and ensuring they are fully prepared for college and careers.

  • Seven SSD Teachers Awarded Grants from Missouri Retired Teachers Foundation

    Aug. 30, 2021 - A total of eight SSD teachers and support personnel have been awarded grants from Missouri Retired Teachers Foundation (MRTF). MRTF is a not-for-profit organization devoted to raising funds to award grants to active teachers to enhance their classroom instruction, among other things. Last year, almost 100 grants were awarded to teachers across Missouri.

  • Haar Helps Paras Joining SSD

    August 26, 2021 - Kevin Haar can often be found standing in front of the brightly lit windows of the Learning Center’s third-floor conference room as he welcomes newly hired SSD paraprofessionals (or commonly known as teacher assistants) to orientation. He greets new staff with granola bars and laptops as they stream in to begin their first day as a para for SSD. “I want them to know I am their ally, they can come to me with anything,” says Haar, who joined the Planning and Development team as our Paraprofessional Professional Learning Facilitator on July 1, 2021.

  • Zonar GPS Installed on All SSD Busses

    August 18, 2021 - SSD’s transportation department added a new feature to its bus service: Zonar Advanced GPS. With the new system, SSD buses can now be tracked up-to-the-minute by the SSD dispatch team, as well as parents and students using the Stopfinder app.

  • Schwaegel Joins SSD’s Neuwoehner Administrative Team

    August 10, 2021 - Neuwoehner recently welcomed Tiffany Schwaegel as the new Assistant Principal. Schwaegel began her SSD career in 2010 as a special education instructor in the Hazelwood School District. She then served as an area coordinator intern, before joining the Mehlville team as an area coordinator in 2015.

  • 2021-22 New Teacher Orientation

    August 5, 2021 - Special School District was pleased to welcome 217 new employees to New Teacher Orientation (NTO), held at North Tech, from July 27-29. The three-day event focused on readying recent hires, ensuring they have the supports and resources they need using a mission titled Equip, Empower, Excel.
