    Mindfulness Room Creates Safe Space for Students at Hoech Middle

    Jan. 31, 2022 - Comfort, safety, and resolution. These are the three areas of focus for students who utilize the Mindfulness Room at Hoech Middle School. Located in the Ritenour School District, the room was created during the 2022-23 school year to expand support for social-emotional learning (SEL). It’s a space for students to address and overcome any challenges they may be experiencing.

Families and students in grades 6 through 12, as well as recent graduates, are invited to these FREE events to experience a variety of careers through interactive exhibits and discussions with industry professionals.

  • Ann Hawkey Will Serve as JDC Principal

    January 17, 2023 - During the January 10 Board of Education meeting, Ann Hawkey was approved for the role of principal of the St. Louis County Juvenile Detention Center. During her transition to her new role, Hawkey will work with the director of special education, SSD leadership, and partner district leadership in Hazelwood to ensure students and schools are supported until the special education coordinator position can be filled.

    SSD Family-School Relationships Survey

    Jan. 13, 2023 - The strength of any school district lies in its relationships with families. In Special School District, District and building leaders, along with school staff are committed to fostering those relationships to create a school culture where students come first. To do that successfully, family input is necessary. Families are invited to complete the SSD Family-School Relationships Survey, which will be available from Jan. 17 through Feb. 10, 2023.

    Jan. 12, 2022 - Eight students at Neuwoehner High School were selected to receive a Character Capture Award for demonstrating kindness, peace, cooperation and safety.This is the 10th year of Character Capture Awards ceremonies at Neuwoehner for the past 10 years and countless students have been recognized and celebrated.

    Lou Fusz Donates Two Cars to South Tech

    Jan. 12, 2022 - South Tech High School received a generous gift from Lou Fusz Automotive in early January. The car dealer donated two used cars to the Automotive Technology Program, a 2003 Chevrolet Impala and a 2007 Volkswagen New Beetle. Lou Fusz has donated four vehicles to North and South Tech over the past eight months and they have no plans to stop.

His heroes wore business suits and earned fame for the trust they inspired in television audiences. His heroes were Peter Jennings, Dan Rather, and Tom Brokaw, all Emmy award winners.

    Dec. 19, 2022 - Lifting up teachers in the St. Louis region for their amazing work in the classroom is an annual endeavor of the Emerson Corporation. The organization’s Excellence in Education program recognizes educators in the St. Louis metropolitan area who are examples of excellence in their field. This year, five SSD teachers were among those selected to receive the company’s Excellence in Education Award.

    150 Winter Food Kits Provided for SSD Families

    Dec. 13, 2022 - Since 2021, SSD’s FACE (Family and Community Engagement) has led the charge in providing Winter Food Kits for SSD families. This December, over 150 boxes filled with canned tuna, chicken, oatmeal, applesauce, fruit cups, granola bars, and much more will be delivered by Warehouse staff to SSD sites for families to pick-up.

    North Tech Opens Doors to Applied Tech Practical Nursing Program

    The District has moved Applied Technology Services from rented space at Wellston’s MET Center to recently renovated quarters inside North Tech. The program’s need for better infrastructure, more space, and improved technology resources made the District’s decision to renovate newly available academic space at North Tech rather than renewing the MET lease a prudent choice. An official opening was held on Nov. 28, when Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Keenan and other administrators joined staff who work in the practical nursing program for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
