  • Pattonville Students Attend Cardinals Game

    October 4, 2022 - In early September, 21 SSD students, staff, and parents from Pattonville School District attended the Washington Nationals vs. St. Louis Cardinals baseball game. SSD Teacher Carrie Cobb and Pattonville Teacher Tina Rellergert received complimentary tickets through the Cardinals’ Community Ticket Program.

  • Southview Celebrates International Dot Day

    September 16, 2022 - The hallways of Southview School were filled with colors of the rainbow as students and staff celebrated International Dot Day on September 15. The global holiday is based on the book “The Dot,” by Peter H. Reynolds.The book encourages students to showcase their creativity and be courageous and collaborative.

  • Ritenour Teacher Creates Core Board for Staff and Students

    September 15, 2022 - To help maximize students' learning in and outside the classroom, Speech Language Pathologist Kari Lane decided to create a core board. It’s a type of communication tool that has symbols, bright colors, and common words.

  • Ackerman School Holds 12th Annual Fishing Field Trip

    September 9, 2022 - Nearly 175 staff and students at Ackerman School made the journey to St. Ferdinand Park for the school's annual fishing field trip. Ackerman works closely with the Missouri Department of Conservation and the Nature’s Calling program to provide this opportunity to students.

  • Superintendent Insider: Teacher Workload Update

    Sept. 8, 2022 - In the latest installment of the Superintendent Insider, Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Keenan discusses the updates and changes to help ease the workload SSD teachers face on a regular basis. During 2021, the Teacher Workload Committee spent time identifying the most time-consuming tasks by connecting with teacher ad administrators. As a result of their efforts, new limitations have been announced to help reduce the burden of unnecessary or non-instructional tasks.

  • Fall 2022 Construction Update

    Sept. 6, 2022 - Significant upgrades have been made across the District to buildings, facilities, and recreational spaces for the 2022-23 school year. Several projects are in their final stages as construction, replacements, and repairs progress.

  • Erin Hemme Advances as Semi-finalist in MO TOY Competition

    August 30, 2022 - Erin Hemme, SSD’s 2021 Teacher of the Year, is a semi-finalist for the 2023 Missouri Teacher of the Year Award. She is one of 17 regional teachers selected by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). The process began with 34 outstanding teachers across the state of Missouri.

  • Northview Students Learn School Expectations

    August 25, 2022 - Respect, responsibility, and best effort. That is what teachers and staff at Northview High School wanted students to learn as they embarked on a two-day Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Boot Camp. For one hour, students visited different classrooms and spaces throughout the school and learned about expectations.

  • SSD Students Attend Jayson Tatum Basketball Camp

    August 16, 2022 - The Jayson Tatum Foundation provided scholarships to Special Olympics Missouri, allowing eight SSD students to participate in the Jayson Tatum Basketball ProCamp free of charge over the summer. Tatum is a St. Louis native and NBA basketball player for the Boston Celtics. His camp was held on Aug. 4-5 at Chaminade College Preparatory School.

  • School Meals for 2022-23

    August 12, 2022 - Over the last two years, SSD and school districts across the country were able to provide free meals to students due to the USDA waivers associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. However, those waivers expired at the end of the 2021-22 school year. This means SSD will be returning to a paid meal service under USDA’s National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program. Meals will be charged according to a student’s free, reduced, or paid meal eligibility status during the 2022-23 school year.

  • 2022-23 COVID-19 Safe Return to In-Person Learning Plan - Updated Masking and Mitigation Measures

    July 27, 2022 - With the increased availability of personal protective equipment (PPE), access to vaccinations and boosters for all students and staff, the removal of St. Louis County’s mask mandate, and the recent court ruling regarding health mandates and quarantines in Missouri schools, we are updating our health and safety practices.

  • Kline Announced as New Assistant Director of Compliance

    July 15, 2022 - During the July 12 Board of Education meeting, Sarah Kline was approved for the role of assistant director of compliance. This new role within Special School District (SSD) will assist in gathering supporting documentation for District responses to requests for mediation and due process hearings.

  • Austin Elected to Missouri Education Technology Leaders Board of Directors

    July 14, 2022 - Doug Austin, SSD’s chief technology officer, recently was elected to the Missouri Education Technology Leaders (METL) Board of Directors. As a member at large, he will be sharing his expertise on implementing technology used in SSD with other technology staff members in school districts across the state.

  • Hemme Selected as a 2022 Regional TOY Honoree

    July 7, 2022 - Congratulations to Erin Hemme, who has been selected as a 2022 Regional Teacher of the Year Honoree by EducationPlus and the St. Louis Regional Professional Development Center! She has been a teacher at the Ladue Early Childhood Center for children who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH) for the past six years.

  • $3,000 Awarded to Ackerman Music Teacher

    July 5, 2022 - Ackerman Music Teacher Stephanie Jones has been awarded the Music Education Outreach Grant in the amount of $3,000 from Sigma Alpha Iota Philanthropies (SAI).
