New Parent Education & Diversity Awareness Liaison Announced
July 29, 2021 - Emily Laboube has been announced as the new Parent Education & Diversity Awareness (PEDA) Liaison.
Laboube previously served as a paraprofessional for SSD within the Rockwood School District. For part of the last school year, she held a long-term substitute position as a resource teacher. In this position, she worked with parents, provided online educational support to students, communicated effectively with students and families about student needs and progress, and implemented Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) through Zoom.
Laboube has three children, one of whom has an IEP within the Special School District. “This experience allows me to understand and speak to other parents with compassion, empathy, and respect,” said Laboube. “I am looking at this position to make a greater impact in the special education community, and help guide parents to resources, collaboration, and building of community.”
PEDA utilizes a number of strategies and services to reach and support all families and stakeholders within SSD. These supports include consultation, resource and referral, problem-solving, training/workshops, Parent Advisory Council (PAC) development, and support and leadership development. PEDA champions meaningful inclusion, equity, family engagement, and collaborative relationships, which support student success and living their best self-determined lives.
“I am so excited to serve my local community in this new capacity,” said Laboube. “I have a passion for helping families who are going through the IEP process to obtain resources and connect with other families.”
