Wallace Garners Leadership Award from Foundation

November 4, 2021 - This year has been a milestone for Dr. Ronda Wallace,Dr. Ronda Wallace, principal at Special School District’s North Technical High School principal at Special School District’s North Technical High School!

Wallace was recently selected by the St. Louis American Foundation to receive a 2021 Excellence in Education Award for leadership in her school and community. She and five other award recipients will be celebrated at the foundation’s 34th Annual Salute to Excellence in Education Scholarship and Awards virtual gala on Nov. 5. In addition to her award, she will receive a $500 grant. The event will be streamed on the St. Louis American’s homepage, Facebook and YouTube channel.

"I am overwhelmed with gratitude and joy,” she said. “I am truly passionate about providing the best sustainable post-secondary outcomes for all students. To be a part of an educational system that provides leverage for all students while helping them to realize their full potential is rewarding. I am truly grateful that the St. Louis American Foundation is dedicated to serving the African-American community while sharing my love for empowering and supporting students to excel beyond what they believed!"

Wallace began her career at North Technical High School in 2014 as assistant principal and progressed to building principal in February 2021. In addition to her job at SSD, she is an adjunct professor at Harris-Stowe State University. Earlier in her career, she was an administrator in the Normandy School District and an educator, administrative partner, and counselor in the Houston Independent School District in Houston, Texas.

She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, a 2020 recipient of the Titus 2 Foundation Educator Impact Award, a 2013 recipient of Iota Phi Lambda Sorority’s Apple for The Teacher Award (Alpha Zeta Chapter), and the 2004-05 Teacher of the Year of the Houston Independent School District. She is the first African American female principal at North Tech.

After earning her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Texas Southern University and a master’s degree in counseling from Prairie View A&M University, Wallace then completed her doctorate at Lindenwood University. She also holds an educational specialist degree.

The St. Louis American Foundation is dedicated to helping the African American community increase its access to careers in business, the sciences, and humanities. Since its inception in 1994, the foundation has distributed nearly $2.5 million in local community grants and minority scholarships.
