August 12, 2022 - Over the last two years, SSD and school districts across the country were able to provide free meals to students due to the USDA waivers associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. However, those waivers expired at the end of the 2021-22 school year. This means SSD will be returning to a paid meal service under USDA’s National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program. Meals will be charged according to a student’s free, reduced, or paid meal eligibility status during the 2022-23 school year.

Free and Reduced Price Meals

We recognize that returning to paid meals this school year can have significant impact on family budgets. To help ease this transition, we encourage families to fill out the free and reduced meal application. The online application only takes a few minutes and is the fastest, easiest way to get approved. 

Regardless of whether you think you qualify, it is a good idea to complete the application. Filling out an application can help with:

• Family Savings: If your child eats breakfast and lunch each day and you qualify for free meals, your family saves an average of $75 per month, per child.

• Internet Access: You may qualify your family for discounted rates on home internet service.

• School Funding: Additional funding for state and federal programs and services in our District.

Community Eligibility Provision (CEP)

Students at Ackerman, Litzsinger, Northview, and North Tech* are part of the Community Eligibility Provision for Free and Reduced Breakfast and Lunch Program for the 2022-23 school year. Breakfast and lunch will continue to be available for these students at no charge. Students at Bridges, Neuwoehner, South Tech*, and Southview will be responsible for purchasing breakfast and lunch at school. *North Tech and South Tech do not serve lunch, only breakfast.
