Bridget Duke Announced as Neuwoehner Assistant Principal
Jan. 17, 2023 - During Jan. 10, 2023 Board of Education meeting, Bridget Duke was approved as the Assistant Principal at Neuwoehner High School. Duke has been with Special School District since August 2018. During her transition to her new role, Duke will work with the director of special education, SSD leadership, and partner district leadership in Kirkwood to ensure the schools and students are supported until the special education coordinator position can be filled.
“I am incredibly excited to be joining the Neuwoehner family!” said Duke. “I can't wait to begin building relationships with students, families, and staff and start learning how my skills can complement the wonderful things already happening there.”
Duke currently serves SSD as a special education coordinator in Kirkwood Schools. In this role, she supervised approximately 40-55 staff members each year. Consistently meeting with partner district administration, SSD staff, and families for program development, Duke would also collaborate with early childhood directors in developing processes for transition for students with IEPs (individualized education plan). She completed an administrative internship during the 2018-19 school year.
Prior to this, Duke was a special education teacher in Alton School District for over 10 years. As a teacher, she would provide individualized instruction to students with a variety of disabilities using research-based interventions, collect data on students’ IEP goals, and implement classroom learning systems. She also performed duties as a work program coordinator by securing job sites for students and supervising off-campus student work.
Duke holds an educational specialist from Southeast Missouri State, a special education director certificate from Lindenwood University, along with a bachelor of science, bachelor of special education, and masters in administration from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.
