Neu’s Got Talent a Showstopper

Neuwoehner student sings at the talent show.

March 13, 2023 - Neuwoehner High School was overflowing with dancing, singing, instrumental, and comedy performances during its annual Neu’s Got Talent Showcase. Nearly 30 students participated, showing off their skills to friends and family.

“This is my first year as the music teacher at Neuwoehner and coordinating this Talent Show has led to some of the highlights of my year so far,” said Stephanie Holdmeyer, music teacher. “To me, the talent show at Neuwoehner is a celebration of the amazing abilities that these students have. It is a time to showcase something that they feel good about, which hopefully inspires the audience in the process.”

Songs featured during the showcase include “Let it Go” from the movie “Frozen,”  “Heart Attack” by Demi Lovato, and “When I see Your Face” by Bruno Mars.

“I performed twice,” said Evelyn Breit, senior student. “I love to sing. I sang the ‘Sesame Street’ theme song and ‘Don’t Speak’ by No Doubt with my friend Jade.”

Ian Jenkis, an 11th grader, describes his time on stage feeling like his legs were buckling.

“I was nervous,” said Jenkins. “I sang the song ‘Understand’ by Boywithuke. He inspired me to play the ukulele, so that’s why I picked it.”

Holdmeyer commends all the performers on their bravery and ability to share what they love with others. Assistant Principal Bridget Duke says that every person is born with a talent and all the student performers proved that on showday.

“The gym was filled with applause, cheers, and even some tears,” said Duke. “I am so proud of not only the participants, but the students in the crowd as well.”
