March 6, 2024 - Antwanne Buie, 4th grader at Litzsinger School, is no stranger to physical endurance.

“I like to challenge myself by doing 10 to 20 push-ups,” he said.

That passion expressed in an essay written about healthy habits, which resulted in him being chosen as a 2024 Billikens Education Day Middle School Essay Winner. He was recognized during halftime at a Saint Louis University basketball game.

“Antwanne is not a big fan of writing. That is one of the reasons why him receiving this award is even more special,” said Matthew Mueller, Litzsinger PE teacher. “This was perfect for his confidence and hopefully the start of his growth as a writer.”

Along with his progress as a writer, his teachers have also seen him improve emotionally. Jason Vanover, Litzsinger PE teacher, calls him a shining star.

“I have not seen him in distress once this year,” said Vanover. “I think that has a lot to do with the love he feels at school. He always has a big smile on his face and loves to give us hugs. He is a bright star at the school.”

Antwanne enjoys working out because he likes having big muscles and abs. He plans to carry on this passion well into adulthood.
