May 7, 2024 - Ja’Miah Mosby, senior Northview High School student, has earned the title of 2024 Missouri Miss Amazing Queen after competing in the regional event and being crowned a winner in the teen category.

“When I heard my name called, I was so happy and ran to the stage,” said Mosby. “I knew I could do it.”

Miss Amazing is a non-profit organization with chapters in over 35 states. Its mission is to provide lifelong personal development opportunities that nurture self-esteem in girls and women with disabilities. Part of the program requires participants to compete in a 1-2 day event. It involves being interviewed by three groups of judges, giving a presentation on a topic they are passionate about or performing a hobby, and introducing oneself in front of an audience of 250-plus people.

“It’s cool,” added Mosby. “You get to show your talent and be yourself. My talent was skating, roller skating. I taught myself and I wasn’t nervous at all. It felt good to be on the big stage.”

Mosby competed in the teen category, ages 16-19. Age divisions range from 5 years old to 36 years old and older. Ja’Miah wanted to participate because she had never been in a pageant before. She says the best part was wearing her formal dress, which was a light purple and had long ruffles from her waist to her feet. As a winner, she received a crown, sash, and a pair of earrings.

“Something told me that she was going to win,” said Carol Hoffman, Northview teacher. “When she returned to school on Monday, the weekend after the event, just by looking at her, I knew she had won. She told me all about it and was so excited. I am so proud of her. Just seeing her confidence shine is amazing.”

Over 30 girls participated in the event. Mosby will compete in the National event in Chicago over the summer. She will also have the opportunity to attend Missouri Miss Amazing next year to help crown and cheer on the 2025 queens.
