Self-Care Days for Students and Staff
October 27, 2021- Dear Families and SSD Staff,
This school year has been demanding and the pandemic has taken its toll on all of us. Our students, families, teachers, and staff have had to work through innumerable challenges and unprecedented stress.
While some of these challenges and stressors are beyond our control, SSD would like to provide our students and staff the opportunity to focus on self-care. At the Oct. 26 SSD Board of Education meeting, the Board approved the following self-care days to support students and staff:
-
Monday, November 1, 2021, all SSD schools, programs, and sites will be closed. Central Office, the Learning Center, and Distribution Center will remain open. SSD staff located in the partner districts are to follow their partner district’s protocols and designations.*
-
Wednesday, November 24, 2021, SSD will be closed. This includes all SSD schools, sites, and programs, along with Central Office, the Learning Center, and Distribution Center will be closed.
No virtual work or learning will be planned during self-care time, and no make-up dates will be required.
I recognize we are giving families very short notice of this calendar change and truly apologize for any inconvenience it may cause. I also realize that this brief break will not eliminate stress or future challenges this year may hold, but I hope the time off will allow students and staff the chance to reset and recharge so that we can finish 2021 strong.
Families, thank you for continuing to be partners in your student’s success.
Staff, thanks for all you do to support our students and each other.
With my great appreciation,
Elizabeth Keenan, Ph.D.
SSD Superintendent
*These self-care dates are not designated for SSD staff located in the partner districts, as SSD staff are to follow their partner district’s protocols and designations. Some partner districts are leading the charge with providing their staff self-care days or virtual PD days from home. The SSD staff, located in the partner districts where these days are taking place, have been advised that they are able to follow suit with those designated days as determined by their partner district. For those partner districts that have not yet engaged in this practice, there is still a possibility they will consider this option for their district in the future.
