May 17, 2022 - Lou Fusz Automotive Network made a stop at South Tech High School to discuss open positions and donate a van to the Automotive Technology Program. The company is currently looking to hire full-time detailers. In this position, workers are paid $15 per hour and are responsible for making cars frontline ready for the dealership. A $500 scholarship is awarded after working for 45 days.

“We are really busy in the summer, but need detailers all year round,” said Lou Fusz Hiring Manager Julie Elking. “This is a really good way for an applicant to get their foot in the door. We are all about promoting from within.”

After discussing career options with the students, Talent Acquisition Manager Randy Harman presented the company’s gift to the school, a 2017 Ford Transit cargo van. He learned from the parts director that the company was looking to get rid of the van and immediately thought of donating it to South Tech.

“I thought it would be great for one of the tech schools. Their students could work and haul parts on it,” said Harman. “I contacted Jeff Chandler [South Tech Counselor] and he said the Automotive program could use the van. One thing led to another, and now we’re standing here today gifting it to the school.”

The new vehicle will be used to prepare students for work in the automotive industry. South Tech Instructor John Arndt says the newest vehicle in the shop is a 2009 Ford Mustang.

“With the newer addition, we will be able to train students on more modern technology that have been added to the newer line of vehicles,” said Arndt.

Harman has visited South Tech several times during previous school years to recruit students and talk about their future goals. He looks forward to returning in the fall.
