Dr. Michael Maclin Named New Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility

Dr. Michael Maclin Named New Executive Director of DEIAMay 25, 2022 - During the May 24, 2022 Board of Education meeting, Dr. Michael Maclin was named the new Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility. Maclin has served the District in the Director of Equity role since July 2020.

Since joining SSD, Maclin has established the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Framework. The Equity Framework is the SSD’s guiding document to ensure equity practices are present in all aspects of the District. 

As a diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility expert, Maclin’s ability to strategize and execute programs that will create a  culture of diversity in the workplace has earned him numerous awards. His expertise includes conceptualizing workplace diversity programs and seeing their proper implementations to ensure a smooth functioning system.

Before coming to SSD, Maclin filled teaching and administrative roles at Parkway School District, University City School District, and Maplewood-Richmond Heights School District.

Maclin has a doctorate in leadership in teaching and learning, an education specialist, a master’s of educational administration, a master’s in guidance and counseling,  a bachelor’s in communications from Missouri Baptist University, and received a racial equity facilitator certificate from Harvard. He’s been recognized as an Educator of the Year, New Principal of the Year, and has led schools to receive Southern Regional Education Board’s High Schools That Work and Apple Distinguished High School awards.

“I am excited to expand my work as SSD's Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility and am thankful for the opportunity,” said Maclin. “As our District continues to move forward through our five-year Equity Framework, I am confident that we can and will create systemic change. DEIA is a foundational principle that requires districtwide commitment and practice. I am looking forward to helping our staff incorporate these core values into their daily work and seeing SSD realize its mission and vision.”
