Board Approves Communications Department Administrator Hires
June 24, 2021 - The SSD Board of Education approved Chantal Chandler as the new Marketing Administrator and Janaca Scherer as the new Communications Administrator, during Tuesday night’s meeting. Chandler and Scherer will begin their new roles in the SSD Communications Department on July 1.
Chandler has served SSD’s technical schools since 2006. Starting as an admissions representative, she implemented recruiting strategies that resulted in a 10% enrollment increase and developed admission protocols that focused on customer service. More recently, working in strategic outreach for admission, Chandler led a rebranding campaign for the tech schools and developed a comprehensive internal and external communications plan.
“Sharing the exceptional opportunities offered in North and South Technical High Schools has been exciting work and I look forward to continuing to ensure our many stakeholders recognize their value," said Chandler. "SSD deserves to be known for its outstanding employees and rewarding, meaningful careers. Assisting our Human Resources team in this effort using solid marketing practices to recruit and grow our talented staff will be a highlight of this new role."
Chandler graduated with a bachelor’s in journalism and a master’s in mass communications from Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville. She has presented at a wide variety of conferences and was a panelist during PBS’ American Graduate Project “Now Hiring: A Skill Workforce” in 2019.
Scherer has been a member of SSD’s Communications Department since 2020. As the Digital Media Specialist, she increased the department’s customer service, social media presence, and external communications efforts. Scherer worked previously in Francis Howell School District’s communications department, where she focused her efforts on digital asset management, website accessibility, and video production. During her time there, she worked on a campaign to help the district pass Missouri’s largest school bond issue to date for $244 million.
“I’m excited to take on this new leadership role and help further SSD’s communication efforts,” said Scherer. “There are so many positive and uplifting moments happening in SSD classrooms across the county waiting to be shared with our stakeholders. I look forward to creating greater awareness of SSD by celebrating the work of SSD students and staff through consistent and creative storytelling.”
Scherer graduated from University of Missouri - St. Louis with a bachelor’s in media studies and a certificate in public relations. She was awarded a Missouri School Public Relations Association (MOSPRA) award for video content in 2018 and is a proud graduate of the Vision Protege leadership program.
