Board Approves Academic Calendars

May 5, 2021 – SSD’s Board of Education approved the academic calendars for the 2021-2022, 2022-2023, and 2023-2024 school years at the April 27 Board meeting.

The Board approved one calendar for Ackerman School, Litzsinger School, Northview High School, Neuwoehner High School, Southview School, the Bridges program, the Vocational Skills Program, and North Technical and South Technical high schools. They also approved a year-round calendar that applies to SSD’s court school programs at the Juvenile Detention Center and the Lakeside Program.

The calendars for SSD schools and programs reflect a start date in accordance with Section 171.031 of Missouri state statute, which requires each school district's opening date be no earlier than 14 calendar days before the first Monday in September. SSD works with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to be granted an exemption to this statute for the court school programs.

The calendars were developed by a team that included teaching staff, union representatives, and SSD leaders. Draft calendars were shared with SSD special education and technical school building representatives for feedback.

Their feedback included:

  • Having professional development days throughout the school year and at the end of each quarter.
  • Continuing to provide two weeks for winter break.
  • Developing breaks that work well with partner district breaks.

In September 2019, the Board approved a tentative academic calendar for SSD schools and programs for 2021-2022. The 2021-2022 calendar approved on April 27 added staff professional development days with no student attendance on Jan. 14, 2022, and March 18, 2022.

If circumstances arise that require a change to the academic calendars, the revisions will be submitted to the Board of Education for approval.
