May 10, 2021 – The St. Louis Business Journal has honored Accent Group Solutions and SSD for their collaboration to benefit students as part of the 2021 Corporate Philanthropy Awards.

Accent Group and SSD were recognized in the Innovation in Philanthropy category during a virtual event on May 6.

Accent Group is a warehouse, distribution, fulfillment, and printing provider located in Crestwood. The company has partnered with SSD’s Vocational Skills Program (VSP) for the last six years to support students with special needs in learning employment skills.

Kim Gettemeier, a teacher in the VSP program, said the students who participate in the partnership at Accent Group gain valuable skills to prepare them for their future and find employment.

“It’s wonderful because we can have parent involvement and home-school contact at every step,” Gettemeier told the St. Louis Business Journal. “We problem-solve together and get useful feedback about what is working well. The students are grateful for real-world opportunities that will mean something to them in the very near future.”
