SSD Celebrates Emerson Award Winners

Oct. 23, 2020 – Four SSD teachers were recently recognized as recipients of the Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award. They will each receive a crystal apple award and be eligible to participate in the Emerson Gold Star Grant program. The Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award is given to approximately 100 teachers throughout the St. Louis area.

jennifer balog Jennifer Balog is a special education teacher at Crestview Middle School in the Rockwood School District. Always willing to go the extra mile, she’s been known to skip lunch, stay late or show up early if it will help her students master a new task or learn a new lesson. She is committed to communicating with her students and their families to provide a holistic approach to their education.

Damon Cetro is a special education and math teacher at Hixson Middle School in the Webster Groves School District and has a knack for finding just the right strategy each student needs to achieve success. He has a keen eye for bringing out potential in students by encouraging them to step out of their comfort zone and build their self-esteem.



faith rose Faith Rose, a special education teacher at Eureka Elementary School in the Rockwood School District, helps her students develop into well-rounded individuals by incorporating life lessons and skills that will support their success once they leave school. She does this by making a safe environment for them to explore and learn.



tracy wolz Tracy Wolz is an itinerant teacher for students with orthopedic impairments and works throughout St. Louis County. She is passionate about collaborating with fellow teachers and shares her enthusiasm and love of teaching with others, both inside and outside of the classroom.
