SSD to Host Business Diversity Workshop
Feb. 27, 2023 - Special School District is proud to host a free Business Diversity Workshop on March 11, 2023, from 8:30 AM to 12 PM, at Northview High School. Local businesses are invited to attend the workshop to learn more about how to become certified MBE, WBE, DBE, and SDVE business enterprises, tips and tricks for completing RFPs, and guidance on how to do business with school districts.

Feb. 1, 2023 - In the latest installment of the Superintendent Insider, Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Keenan asks you to join her in celebrating North and South Tech as we recognize CTE Month®. SSD has been providing career and technical education to students in St. Louis County for over 50 years, offering new programs, outstanding partnerships, and relevant experiences to our region's high school students. That's the value of CTE.

SSD Announces St. Louis County Apprenticeship and Career Pathways Showcase Dates
Jan. 17, 2023 - Special School District is proud to co-host the St. Louis County Apprenticeship and Career Pathways Showcase for the second year. Families and students in grades 6 through 12, as well as recent graduates, are invited to these FREE events to experience a variety of careers through interactive exhibits and discussions with industry professionals.

SSD Family-School Relationships Survey
Jan. 13, 2023 - The strength of any school district lies in its relationships with families. In Special School District, District and building leaders, along with school staff are committed to fostering those relationships to create a school culture where students come first. To do that successfully, family input is necessary. Families are invited to complete the SSD Family-School Relationships Survey, which will be available from Jan. 17 through Feb. 10, 2023.

Lou Fusz Donates Two Cars to South Tech
Jan. 12, 2022 - South Tech High School received a generous gift from Lou Fusz Automotive in early January. The car dealer donated two used cars to the Automotive Technology Program, a 2003 Chevrolet Impala and a 2007 Volkswagen New Beetle. Lou Fusz has donated four vehicles to North and South Tech over the past eight months and they have no plans to stop.

Winter Health Guidance
Dec. 14, 2022 - As the cold weather moves in and families celebrate the holidays, sickness is on the rise. Contagious respiratory viruses can spread easily and SSD schools are experiencing an increasingly high rate of illness in our student population.

Spire Holds Demonstration for South Tech Students
Dec. 6, 2022 - Representatives from Spire Energy visited South Tech in early December to show electrical trades, construction trades, and HVAC students what an average workday looks like in the field. Staff set up all their equipment on the old soccer field and demonstrated how a service is installed.

SSD Celebrates Family Engagement Month
November 1, 2022 - During the month of November, SSD will be celebrating our families! Family Engagement Month recognizes the vital role that school and families play throughout their student’s education journey and as their student’s first educator. Family Engagement Month is meant to celebrate the contributions of families and encourage increased participation within the school.

South Tech Students Meet with Industry Partners at Networking Event
Oct. 31, 2022 - Albert Mitchell, South Tech Design and Entrepreneurship Instructor, held a networking event titled Java Jam for his junior and senior classes. Students connected with business professionals from Richard Higby Design, Missouri AfterSchool Network, Black Girls Do STEM, American Income Life Insurance Company, and John Fahnestock, a professor at Maryville University.

South Tech Students Introduced to SkillsUSA
Oct. 17, 2022 - Phil Patterson and Joanne Fisher, South Tech Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) advisors, held an ice cream social for students to inform them about SkillsUSA. SkillsUSA is an organization that hosts district, state, and national competitions for technical education students. There are nearly 100 different categories, which include nurse assisting, extemporaneous speaking, T-shirt design, plumbing, carpentry, and more.

2023-24 Unified Calendar Update
October 12, 2022 - During last night’s meeting, SSD’s Board of Education reviewed updates to the 2023-24 calendar. The updates will align our SSD calendar with those of our partner districts. The Board will vote to approve the changes for the 2023-24 calendar at the next Board Business meeting on Nov. 1.

Fall 2022 Construction Update
Sept. 6, 2022 - Significant upgrades have been made across the District to buildings, facilities, and recreational spaces for the 2022-23 school year. Several projects are in their final stages as construction, replacements, and repairs progress.

World Wide Technology Chooses North & South Tech for First High School Level Apprenticeship
World Wide Technology establishes their first registered youth apprenticeship with North and South Tech High Schools.

Upcoming Events with FACE
August 31, 2022 - Family and Community Engagement (FACE) is geared up for the first semester of 2022-23 with some great events for our SSD families. All events are free of charge and open to SSD families and community members.

School Meals for 2022-23
August 12, 2022 - Over the last two years, SSD and school districts across the country were able to provide free meals to students due to the USDA waivers associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. However, those waivers expired at the end of the 2021-22 school year. This means SSD will be returning to a paid meal service under USDA’s National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program. Meals will be charged according to a student’s free, reduced, or paid meal eligibility status during the 2022-23 school year.
