Qualifying for Special Education Services
Before your child becomes a member of the SSD family, they must first be referred for special education services and then evaluated. The information below provides an overview of these crucial first steps in the special education process.
Note: Steps 2 and 3 are not completed for early childhood students.

- 2. Implement intervention strategies
- 3. Review by Building Level Team
- 4. Completion of data gathering packet
- 5. Review by Joint Review Committee
- 6. Referral to SSD
- 7. Review of existing data
- 8. Notice and consent for evaluation
- 9. Completion of evaluation
- 10. Eligibility conference
- 11. Development of Individualized Education Program
- 12. Placement notice and consent to place
- 13. Provision of services begins
