SSD Teacher of the Year

Congratulations Sarah Weinman, SSD's 2025 Teacher of the Year!

Sarah Weinman is a dynamic educator who equips her students with essential real-world skills, fostering both independence and confidence. As a Community-Based Vocational Instruction (CBVI) teacher, she takes students to Lambert Airport, matching them with roles that align with their abilities and interests, offering invaluable hands-on work experience. She complements this with a robust employment readiness curriculum that covers resume writing, interview skills, and professional communication, including mock interviews that build confidence in a supportive environment. Sarah also manages the school store, where students gain practical experience in budgeting, inventory management, and customer service, fostering financial literacy and responsibility.

Her commitment extends beyond the classroom—during her personal time, she helps students with tasks like navigating public transportation, scheduling medical appointments, and preparing for job interviews. She even guides them through apartment hunting and securing driver’s licenses, ensuring they’re prepared for life after graduation. Sarah’s inclusive approach tailors instruction to meet diverse learning needs, using differentiated strategies, technology, and hands-on projects to engage all learners. Through initiatives like Character Education and her role on the Data Team, she fosters a positive school culture and supports student growth.

Sarah’s dedication has a lasting impact, with many of her students successfully transitioning into permanent employment, particularly at the airport. Her strong relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community partners reflect her unwavering commitment to student success, making her an invaluable asset to the school community.
